HCBA Membership Committee: For You, Our Members
Roshan Rajkumar and Craig Sandok
March 23, 2009

So 2009 began with doldrums of financial crisis, record corporate down-sizing, and a true recession–and for those who have lost jobs during this time, it is a depression. In these turbulent times, your association is looking to be a safe harbor for you, its members.

The HCBA is more than just CLE, whether it is free Wi-Fi or temporary office space to use while downtown on client calls. You can stop in for a cup of coffee, a conversation with staff or other members, or just sit for a moment and catch your breath. Your HCBA is here for you. Offices are conveniently located on the 3rd Floor of the City Center in downtown Minneapolis, and provide a momentary place to relax or be productive. It is also a place to learn what the HCBA offers you year-round, including mentoring programs, pro bono opportunities, and a lawyer referral service. The HCBA also offers opportunities for professional growth, such as leadership training in the non-profit sector, and opportunities to be published or to present CLEs on topics in your areas of expertise.

And though the HCBA is not only about CLEs, in its effort to give you more for your membership, the HCBA will offer three FREE morning CLEs on April 8th, May 1st, and May 12th, at its offices from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Given the current economic downturn these CLEs will address relevant topics including:

·         Rainmaking in a Challenging Economy (April 8th);

·         Strategies to Deal With a Tough Job Market (May 1st); and

·         How to Start Your Own Law Firm (May 12th)

Each CLE will offer valuable insight, opportunities to meet other members of our legal community, and one credit per seminar has been applied for. Continental breakfast will also be provided. And all of this is free for HCBA members. So please mark your calendars and join us for these valuable and pertinent programs in the coming weeks.

Finally, as your Membership Committee, know that we are committed to ensuring the HCBA is providing you with real membership benefits. We are open to suggestions, and want to know what your association should be offering you in the way of programming, events, and CLEs that it is not currently offering. So please feel free to contact the Membership Committee with your thoughts or opinions as to how the HCBA can better serve you, its members.
