"The Power of Association" by Issue Editor Chris Holt. Growing up in a small Kansas town made me acutely aware of the power of associations. It also made me aware of the associations with individuals or organizations with whom one might not have a lot in common. Of course, in an agricultural area, jumping in to make things happen was a long-standing tradition born in barn raisings, “dinner on the ground,” or bringing in the neighbor’s crops when he was taken ill....
